What Social Media Has Taught Me About Road Tripping

We’ve just come back from our most socially integrated road trip yet, and boy have we learned a lot.

As many of you know, we’ve spent the past 2.5 weeks on the road, driving from Vancouver to Newfoundland, down to Florida and back up to Vancouver via New Orleans and Colorado. This was an amazing road trip, and we’re so happy many of you joined in on the road trip fun!

Twitter has become a big part of my everyday life, I’ve been a travel blogger and social media marketer for about 3 years now, and often tweet from the road while travelling. This round we actually took social media to a whole new level on our road trip and encouraged people to tweet us from the road.
We took some whiteboard markers from the office and wrote our Twitter handle on our car. Within a few hours we got our first tweet from the road.

So what has social media taught me about road tripping:

When planning our road trips, I often spend a lot of time on Google finding cool and unusual roadside attractions, and must see places for us to explore while road tripping, but the one thing I’ve underutilized the most … Twitter.

Twitter is a great source to reach out to fellow travellers, and locals for suggestions on fun things to see while in town. But it’s also a great way to communicate with other travellers on the road, and it’s a lot of fun.

  This is a really interesting area of America. It’s the only place where you can find 4 states that meet. There are several states where you can find 3 states that meet, but this is the only place in America where you can find 4 states – those being Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah. Being from Canada, but also an avid road tripper, the first time I learned of this area, it was really fascinating, and we had to check it out. Exploring the Grand Canyon during Winter

The Grand Canyon National Park is an amazing road trip destination that remains high on many peoples bucket list. It’s a must-see destination at least once in your lifetime. Standing on the edge of the Grand Canyon looking down into the canyon itself is breathtaking. It’s like nothing I have ever seen before. However, this spectacular destination can get quite busy during the summer months, with busloads of tourists, large RVs and tons of traffic. This is a great reason to visit the Grand Canyon during the Winter months. Myself personally, I prefer to road trip during the Fall and Winter months. There is less traffic on the roads, and definitely less tourists at these popular destinations.    Fun fact: did you know the Grand Canyon gets snow during the Winter months? Las Vegas Road Trip Ideas other than the famous strip

I’ve been to Las Vegas several times, and each time we go, the city changes with new features and attractions. It’s an exciting place to be, but did you know there are some amazing attractions and national parks around the Las Vegas area (that won’t cost you an arm and a leg to visit), all within a short drive from the Las Vegas strip, and all worth checking out. Before we get into our list, one of the most amazing experiences for me when traveling to Las Vegas was actually driving there, rather than flying. Nothing can really compare to the experience of driving, not only down the Las Vegas strip itself, but also the roads leading into Las Vegas.
