The Best Poutine in Canada

I did it, I have found the best poutine in Canada (in my opinion). I still dream about this place today. It was just over a year ago since we visited, and I can’t wait to go back.

Here is what I will say about the topic of poutine. As a Canadian girl, who grew up on the West Coast of Canada, I never really understood the hype of poutine. It was very much an East coast thing. Certain stereotypes of Canada, like bagged milk, snowstorms, Beaver tails, frequent Moose sightings, and even poutine were not frequent things on the West Coast. For me, growing up hearing about stereotypes like Canadians eating poutine often were never a reality where I was from.

This hype I heard so much about as a child, I wanted to really explore as an adult, and really learn or understand what people were talking about. With the rise of the food truck industry, poutine trucks became quite popular in our area of Vancouver, so much so that we even have the La Poutine festival now in Vancouver. I explored many different poutine trucks in the Vancouver area over the years, but nothing really blew my mind. I was still very confused about the hype of poutine. At one point I even consider it just being me. Maybe I just don’t like poutine. While exploring the Yukon on our road trip to Alaska, we found a cute little restaurant in downtown White Horse that claimed to have the best poutine in town. Still very disappointing. I was beginning to really think it was just me, that is until we road tripped to Montreal.

I have an amazing Aunt who lives in Montreal, she took us around town on a bike tour, acted as our translator and tour guide, even showing us some amazing foodie spots in town. One of our first stops was of course to try some poutine.

If you’re in a similar situation as I was, not really understanding the hype of poutine, it’s simply because you haven’t experienced the most amazing poutine ever. Now I will remind you that this is of course my own personal opinion, and others may not share that same opinion as myself. However, when I tried the poutine at Patati Patata, I finally understood the hype. It’s something about their gravy that makes all the difference. I will quietly say, I am a little fan of A&W’s poutine, it’s delicious, and they have really good gravy, but Patati Patata takes the cake for sure.

If you’re every in the Montreal area, I do recommend checking this place out. They also have delicious Burgers, and for a reasonable price.

Side note: they get quite busy during lunch and dinner time. Thankfully, we were there quite late at night, and they stay open until 2am.  So after a midnight bike tour of downtown Montreal, we were able to enjoy this delicious poutine.
