Filling the Road Tripper Gaps
During the summer months when we're not road tripping, we often spend our days hiking the local mountains. Not only have we set goals to road trip through every state and province in Canada and America, but we've also set our sights on a list of trails in Vancouver and Whistler to concur.
This past week, we hiked The Lions in Howe Sound. These two mountain
peaks, seen from almost everywhere in Vancouver, are not only an iconic
landmark in the Vancouver region, but also make for an amazing hike.
However, this was hands down one of the most difficult hikes we've done
thus far.
About the trail:
This trail is rated as difficult, with an astonishing 1280 meter elevation gain, and takes roughly 8 hours to complete and runs around 16 kms round trip.
Some hiking tips:
- Lots of sites will warn you of bugs. It`s quite weird, these little bugs land in your eyes to try and drink the water. It's really quite irritating, but unless you go up wearing goggles, you can't get away from this.
- Bring hiking/walking poles. This was suggested on a blog I read before our hike. I found them extremely helpful.
- Stay on the trail. We read many sites warning hikers of problems if you leave the trail. The Lions links into another trail for Mystery Mountain, which adds an extra 4 hours to your already 8 hour hike. Stick to the trail and you'll be fine. It's well marked, but also offers quite the challenge.
As with any hike, make sure to bring plenty of water and food to refuel your body. Most importantly, make sure to take lots of pictures and enjoy the view.

The trail is well marked :)
