Metric Highway Signs in Arizona

Believe it or not, this is an actual highway sign found in southern Arizona.

As a Canadian road tripper, who spends a lot of time road tripping the American interstates and highways, it was surprising for me to learn of the road signs along the I-19 near Amado, Arizona.

We've road tripped through Arizona several times, and it seems to surprise us everytime we see these signs.

A little backstory about these signs:

In the 1980's, these metric road signs were put up along the I-19 when it was believed that the US would convert over to the metric system. These metric signs still stand to this day, although some are lobbying to have them converted to the standard system.
